The wins keep coming for the New York City Football Club as the team pulls off a(nother) dramatic 2-1 win, scoring late and overcoming an early deficit against Charlotte FC, a team they up until this match, had never beaten. Right now, spirits are high, energy is high and most importantly, belief is high. This is a team that is now sitting solely in 6th place after starting out with 0 points in it’s first three matches. Since then, the team has gone 4W-1L-2D, moving up to 14 points as the final game of the five game home stand comes next weekend as Colorado comes to town.
You probably know all this, so instead, going my usual off the beaten path and giving you pics, vids and more that you may NOT have seen at this point, lemme know down below if that’s your jam or not. Let’s go.
10 STATS
1) As mentioned, the team has 14 points in it’s last 7. Last season their best run was at the end of the season when they picked up 15 points in it’s last 8.
2) After giving up 5 goals in the team’s first 3 matches, they’ve settled down and given up 4 in their last 6.
3) On the offensive side, similar success. After scoring just 1 in their first three, they’ve score 10 in the past 7.
4) NYCFC is now 4th in save percentage at 77.3. As an aside, high water mark goes to Real Salt Lake at 83.7. Between that and Chicho, don’t be surprised if they reach the finals this year.
5) On average, the club is firing off 14.4 shots per game, 6th best in the league. However, goals per shot is 4th lowest at .07 goals per shot.
6) In the past 3 matches, they’ve scored a goal after the 90th minute.
7) For all players with 10 or more total shots on goal for the season, Alonso Martinez now leads the club with an average of 2.00 per game.
8) James Sands leads the team in both tackles and interceptions with 26 & 19 respectively.
9) With the win, the only team in MLS that NYCFC has not defeated is St. Louis City SC. Might be a while before that stat can be changed.
10) Thiago Martins leads the club in wins going airborne at 65.4%. This is among all players with at least 10 Aerial Duels.
There you go, 10 after 10. Next up the team finalizes it’s homestand on a daytime Sunday matchup, facing the Colorado Rapids at Citi Field. 4th place is actually doable next week should the club win and Toronto lose. Rungs on a ladder.
