The New York City Football Club has formally acquired Strahinja Tanasijević from Serbain squad FK Spartak Subotica in a deal that will take him through the 2025 season with options through 2027. The team, which already had only given up 4 goals in it’s final 8 matches, added the 26 year old to play both Center Back and Right Back and is expected to be ready for the team’s season opener in Charlotte on February 24.

“We would like to welcome Strahinja to New York. He’s an experienced player who will bolster our backline and give us more depth and competition,” said Sporting Director David Lee. “Strahinja is quick, aggressive and can play a high line, which suits our style of play. He’s a player who is entering the prime of his career and know he’s excited about the opportunity to play in Major League Soccer.”

“I’m honored to join New York City FC. I’m excited to continue my journey in one of the world’s most iconic cities, playing for one of the most iconic clubs, I’m focused on contributing to this season’s success and adding to the team’s dynamic energy. I want to bring my experience and help this team compete for trophies. I can’t wait to play in New York City in front of our passionate fans.”

Personally, I can also see him being a strong mentor to 19 year old Right Back Mitja Ilenic and at 26, provides some degree of veteran leadership to a still relatively young squad.
